This was our first at York Theatre Royal and it was Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” . Astonishingly it was an amateur production which I would have thought too difficult – especially for an adequate coloratura to sing the role of the Queen of the Night ! Actually she did very well in the second section (even more difficult than the first) and I was willing to overlook the slipping wig . The costumes were ok – given the completely bonkers nature of the story – and the music was well handled by some members of the musical staff at Bootham school where our son was lucky enough to go .
You can see the scenery full of masonic references –
And the first really pretty Pamina I have seen – and a lovely voice too !
I am glad that you were able to enjoy this…I have not been to a play in a theater or anywhere for many years. And this is perfect for the holiday season.
